Advantages
- Millennium III Hybrid action with optical sensors and ABS-Carbon parts for a responsive, durable grand-like touch.
- SK-EX Rendering plus physical resonance modeling reproduces Shigeru Kawai concert grand nuances.
- Virtual Technician offers deep per-parameter tonal control (resonance, voicing, touch curves, per-key volume).
- High-end Onkyo audio path and discrete headphone amp deliver exceptional speaker and headphone sound.
- Comprehensive connectivity: Bluetooth MIDI/Audio, USB to Host/Device, MIDI I/O, plus USB audio recording/playback.
Disadvantages
- Bluetooth functionality and some features may be region-limited.
- High feature set requires time to learn Virtual Technician and advanced menus.

Product Description
Kawai Novus NV5 — Premium Hybrid Piano Overview
The Kawai Novus NV5 blends authentic grand-piano mechanics with advanced digital sound, delivering a refined instrument for pianists seeking expressive acoustic feel and modern connectivity. At its core is the Millennium III Hybrid stand-piano key action with optical hammer sensors and ABS-Carbon components, offering a stable, lightweight, and highly responsive touch. A genuine mechanical damper mechanism reproduces pedal feel and half-pedal nuance, enhancing realism even without strings.
Sound is anchored by the exclusive SK-EX Rendering engine, a multisource, high-resolution sampling system paired with physical resonance modeling to capture the Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand’s tonal depth. Players can choose from ten distinct rendering characters and adjust resonance intensity and ambience to match genres and venues. Complementing SK-EX are additional acoustic voices (Kawai EX, SK-5, K-60) and a broad palette of instruments—electric pianos, organs, strings, choirs—accessible in Single, Dual (layered), Split and 4Hands modes for versatile performance and teaching.
The NV5 also includes the Virtual Technician suite for deep tonal shaping: adjust string, damper and cabinet resonance, hammer noise and fall-back sound, touch curves, voicing, tuning, temperament and per-key volume. Effects and reverb types (Room to Cathedral), plus 19 effect types and amp simulations, allow refined sound design. Onboard recording supports internal MIDI-style recorder tracks and USB audio (MP3/WAV) capture; internal recorders handle single- and two-part songs with overdub options in Sound Mode and export via USB. A metronome and 100 rhythm patterns support practice and rehearsal.
Connectivity is modern: Bluetooth MIDI and Audio (where available), USB to Host and USB to Device for file import/export, MP3/WAV playback, and MIDI I/O for integration with DAWs and external gear. Premium Onkyo audio hardware—1-bit processing, dual DACs and DIDRC filtering—drives the internal speakers for clear, powerful reproduction and an enhanced headphone listening experience via a high-performance discrete headphone amp.
A 5" high-resolution touchscreen provides intuitive navigation across four main pages (Pianist, Sound, Music, Favorites) for mode selection, Virtual Technician control, recorder operation and song playback. Built-in demo songs, piano music, lesson materials, and Concert Magic features make the NV5 suitable for practice, performance, education and studio workflows.
Notes:
- The NV5 includes a mechanical Grand Feel pedal system with adjustable trigger point and realistic resistance.
- USB audio recordings are saved to FAT/FAT32 devices; MP3 uses 256 kbps, WAV 1411 kbps.
- Bluetooth features and specific options may vary by region.
