Frequently Asked Questions
The S-Board is designed for tyres up to 38 mm wide. Ensure a minimum clearance of 1.5 cm all around between tyre and mudguard during installation.
Is this answer helpful?
Yes. The S-Board features a light, double-hinged quick-release fitting that is compatible with many aero forks, allowing secure attachment without interfering with fork profiles.
Is this answer helpful?
For permanent, theft-resistant mounting use two additional cable ties per side threaded through the supplied grooves in addition to the rubber clamps. Pull them tight and trim the excess; this secures the guard more permanently than the quick-release straps alone.
Is this answer helpful?
Before every ride check the 1.5 cm clearance, confirm screws are tightened to 1 Nm, and inspect rubber clamps for UV damage. Replace worn clamps and retighten screws as needed to avoid slippage or contact with moving parts.
Is this answer helpful?
The mudguard includes paintwork protection film to help prevent damage, but SKS disclaims liability for frame or carbon finish damage. Proper use of the protection film and regular cleaning around attachment points reduces risk.
Is this answer helpful?
Basic tools are minimal: a 2.5 mm hex (Allen) key may be used for the screws, and scissors for trimming rubber straps or cable-tie ends. A 1 Nm torque driver is recommended to avoid over-tightening.
Is this answer helpful?
SKS provides mounting instructions and a YouTube mounting video demonstrating positioning, adjustment and permanent cable-tie installation steps for correct assembly and safety checks.

Advantages and Disadvantages
Advantages
- Lightweight clip-on design suitable for road, gravel and cyclocross bikes.
- Double-hinged quick-release fitting fits aero forks and is tool-free to position.
- Includes paintwork protection to prevent clamp-induced finish damage.
- Permanent mounting option with cable ties for theft resistance and extra security.
- Adjustable angle and elongated eyelets allow precise 1.5 cm tyre clearance.
Disadvantages
- Maximum tyre width limited to 38 mm, not suitable for wider mountain tyres.
- Screws must be tightened to a very low torque (max 1 Nm), requiring care and a torque driver.
- Rubber clamping straps are UV-sensitive and require periodic replacement.
- Permanent cable-tie mounting is irreversible without cutting ties.
- May need careful trimming of strap ends to avoid spoke contact.
Product Description
SKS S-Board mudguard Manual
The SKS S-Board mudguard is a lightweight, clip-on front guard designed for road, cyclocross, hybrid and gravel bikes. Engineered in Germany, it accommodates tyres up to 38 mm wide and pairs well with the S-BLADE rear mudguard to provide comprehensive splash protection on wet or muddy rides. Its low-profile design and double-hinged quick-release fitting make it compatible with aero forks while keeping weight and drag minimal.
Easy to fit, secure in use
Fitting the S-Board is straightforward: position the mudguard on the fork with a minimum 1.5 cm clearance to the tyre, adjust vertically to achieve that gap, then secure using the rubber quick-release straps and tighten the fastening screws to a maximum of 1 Nm. The plastic stays have elongated eyelets that allow angle adjustment before final tightening. A paintwork protection strip is included to prevent contact damage to the fork finish during clamping.
Permanent mounting option
For a theft-resistant, permanent attachment, the S-Board accepts additional cable ties routed through dedicated grooves alongside the rubber clamps. Use two cable ties per side, pull them tight, and trim the excess. This method secures the guard firmly while maintaining the correct clearance and preventing slippage over rough terrain.
Safety and maintenance
Always check the 1.5 cm clearance and screw torque before each ride — insufficient clearance can result in damage or crashes. Ensure the mudguard never contacts brake parts or moving components. The rubber clamping straps are UV-sensitive and will age; inspect them regularly and replace if showing wear. Re-tighten screws to 1 Nm as needed.
Practical tips
- Trim rubber strap ends if they risk contacting spokes.
- Use the included paint protection film to avoid damage to painted or carbon forks.
- Follow torque guidance exactly: screws must not exceed 1 Nm.
Notes:
- Maximum tyre width: 38 mm.
- Compatible with aero forks thanks to the double-hinged quick-release system.
- Made in Germany; assembly video available on YouTube.
